Put on Your Armor

Put on Your Armor

Sometimes it might feel like everything is falling apart. Sometimes it might feel like everything is against you. Sometimes life might be just plain hard. Some days loved ones might not be so loving. There will be times when not one single thing seems to be going your way. There will be days when you feel like you don’t have a friend in the world.Don’t lose hope. Don’t give up. Don’t give in. Don’t stop being yourself. Don’t lose faith. Don’t despair. Don’t forget who you are – a child of God.

These are attacks from the enemy. But you can’t let him win. Go into battle with your head held high. No weapon formed against you will prosper. God is by your side. He will help you through this.

If the enemy is attacking you, it must mean that you are pretty special. He must be scared of something that he sees in you. The enemy knows that you are a powerful force in God’s Kingdom. When you are being attacked by the enemy, you have good things in front of you. He doesn’t want you to reach those good things, so he does whatever he can to hold you back.

You might feel like you aren’t getting anywhere, but you are. You might feel like you aren’t making a difference, but you are. Maybe you think things will never change, but they will. It might seem as though you are always going to be stuck in the same place, but that is a lie.

I am preaching to myself here as well. Boy do I really need these reminders. Every moment of every day. I easily get discouraged. I easily get offended. But I don’t want to live that want anymore. I don’t want the enemy to have the upper hand on my life anymore.

It can be hard to turn our emotions around in those moments when we feel angry, sad, offended, defeated, or discouraged. But I am learning, slowly but surely, how to take back control. And you can too.

Step one is to remember that these attacks are really the enemy.

Step one is to remember that these attacks are really the enemy. If he can keep us feeling defeated, then he has us right where he wants us. Those feelings and emotions will hold us back and keep us from moving forward. I have seen this first hand with someone in my family. That person has lived in a constant state of anger for as long as I can remember. She is always pointing fingers. She is always claiming that she has been wronged by people, by God, by life. And as a result, she has been stuck in a rut for decades. Things never seem to change and never seem to get better. But if only she would realize that these were attacks from the enemy, then I believe things would turn around.

Step two is to pray about it.

Step two is to pray about it. Hand the problem over to God. Ask Him to help you let go of the feelings that are holding you back. Ask Him to help you turn things around. If the situation involves another person that might have said something or done something to offend you, ask the Lord to help you let it go. If you are just feeling discouragement on the inside because the enemy has been feeding you lies, ask God to help you take every thought captive. Sometimes when I am really feeling troubled, I will get on my knees, put my forehead to the floor, and cry out to the Lord. And He hears me every time.

Step three is to take action.

Step three is to take action. This can look differently depending on the circumstances. Recently at work I have been seeing a lot of turmoil come my way. I immediately want to hide from everyone. I want to keep to myself and just avoid those around me. But these thoughts are not from God. So I have to do just the opposite. In one situation, I was deeply hurt by something a coworker said. I didn’t want to talk to her at the point. But instead, I went into her office and brought up a conversation about a hobby that we both enjoy and I even asked her if she wanted to borrow some of my new craft supplies.

There will be other times when the discouragement doesn’t involve a particular person. For example, at work, it seems like every single project that has been assigned to me is nothing but a heavy brick tied to my leg as I try to swim to shore. Somehow I have been gifted with all of the ugly tasks. And the enemy is happy to get inside my head and tell me how awful everything is. While I might not be able to do much about the projects on my plate, I can still do something about the enemy’s lies. So just the simple act of getting up from my desk and going to ask a coworker about his ailing parent can help turn things around. You see one of the enemy’s tactics is to keep our focus on ourself. So if we can recognize that and turn our thoughts on helping someone else, the enemy won’t be able to get a foothold on us.

These things are all the enemy’s attempts to derail you. You belong to the King of Kings. And nothing can stop Him, which means nothing can stop you. You have the best armor there is. You have what it takes, because you have Jesus. Just keep going. Just keep doing the right thing. Put one foot in front of the other. Keep pressing forward. God’s got this. And He has you in the palm of His hand.

Jesus has already paid the price, so that we could live free. He didn’t die so that we would stay stuck in the same cycles. Take a stand against the enemy, and learn to live The Redeemed Way!
