Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need. – Matthew 6:33 (NLT)
My coworkers went to lunch without me. Again. I didn't even get an invite. My heart felt heavy and I wanted to know why I was excluded. It seemed as though similar scenarios like this played out in my life. Was there a reason why others always overlooked me?
As I drove home that day, I listened to Walk With Me by Jesus Culture. And I felt the Lord telling me that I needed to rely on Him, not other people.
We often turn to people and expect them to fill us up. We want our spouses to make us happy. We seek our friends for fulfillment. We turn to our family for encouragement. We even expect our coworkers to give us the approval we are looking for. Unfortunately, humans are not perfect and they can never be all that we want them to be.
But the good news is that Jesus can be all those things that we need. When you need comfort, He is there. When you need a friend, He is there. When you need acceptance, He is there. When you need love, He is there.
I am learning that it is important to put God first in my life. I need to allow Him to fill me up each and every day. Then when someone lets me down, I can remain at peace in the situation.
Perhaps you have experienced rejection too? I know what it feels like. And Jesus knows what it feels like too. He was rejected throughout His ministry. He was not only mocked and ridiculed, but He was murdered too. So when you feel that ache in your heart, turn to Him. He understands and He can give you comfort.
Jesus, too often I turn to people to fill me up. I expect other people to make me happy. I want everyone to like me and be my friend. But I know the truth is that You are the only One who can ever be all those things to me. You are constant. And I thank You for always being there for me.
